Movie Reviews

“A” Movies

Amar Singh Chamkila – 2024 (Netflix)
Diljit Dosanjh & Parineeti Chopra
What a film! It began with a “bang” (literally) and kept the excitement alive till the end. Diljit’s talent shines brightly throughout the film. Although Parineeti had fewer scenes, she played a huge role in the storyline, and her singing compensated for the limited screen time. If you intend on watching this beware that the story revolves around explicit music, viewer discretion is advised.

“B” Movies

Bawaal – 2023 (Prime)
Varun Dhawan & Janhvi Kapoor
I couldn’t figure out what the movie was focusing on. Epilepsy? WW2? or him being worried about his reputation. The movie’s representation of WW2 was fantastic but everything else didn’t sit well with me. I think it tried to show the idea of comparing our little problems in life to what they went through during the war. But personally, this could’ve been executed better.

Bhediya – 2022
Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon
I was not expecting the movie to deliver a message about deforestation – the was a pleasant surprise. But it was your basic werewolf story. Funny in places. CGI was amazing! However, it felt like Kriti Sanon wasn’t used enough. She was probably present in the movie for a total of 5 minutes (excluding the songs). Her story was explained in 2 lines with no background details.

Bloody Daddy – 2023
Shahid Kapoor, Amy Aela & Diana Penty
This movie was okay. However, I did get bored during some scenes. Maybe I prefer seeing Shahid Kapoor in a more romantic movie than an action film.

“C” Movies

Call me bae – 2024 Series (Prime)
Ananya Panday, Muskkaan Jaferi & Niharika Dutt
S1 – Ananya is made for this type of character. The show started off feeling a little cringey but I started enjoying it as the episodes went on. I didn’t like the story towards the end of the series because it took a darker turn compared to the light-hearted series I was expecting it to be. I also feel the character growth could have been done a different way. Her rich lifestyle to poor lifestyle had no connection to the end topic of sexual assault. The story change personally didn’t make sense to me.

Chhatriwali – 2023
Rakul Preet Singh, Satish Kaushik & Sumeet. Vyas

Great movie! Indian society needs more movies like this when it comes to learning about the female reproductive system. Absolutely would recommend it. May be a little uncomfortable to watch with family.

Chup – 2022
Dulquer Salmaan, Sunny Deol, Shreya Dhanwanthary & Pooja Bhatt

This movie genuinely left me scared. Watch and you’ll know why. The acting was amazing, story was unique and captivating. I was focused from the beginning. I was on the edge of my seat because the clues were right there but people couldn’t see it!!!!!

“D” Movies

Dahaad – 2023 Series (Prime)
Sonakshi Sinha, Vijay Varma & Gulshan Devaiah
S1 – My family and I were so obsessed from the beginning. Great acting! Great story! A very interesting story of a serial killer who was executed to perfection!

Dhokha around D corner – 2022 (Netflix)
R. Madhavan, Darshan Kumar, Aparshakti Khurana & Khushali Kumar

What a movie! I recommend it if you like suspense films. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Dhak Dhak – 2023 (Netflix)
Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Fatima Sana Shaikh & Sanjana Sanghi
Finally, after so long a decent and wholesome movie to watch with the family. Good story and great character development. The characters were all relatable, to all ages and personalities. The casting was spot on!

Doctor G – 2022 (Netflix)
Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh & Shefali Shah
You can’t go wrong with an Ayushman film, especially if Shefali Shah is in it, too! Rakulpreet was good, okay? There? The movie may be a little awkward to watch with family as it touches on the topic of women’s reproductive systems, but I 100% would recommend it.

Double XL – 2022 (Netflix)
Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Zaheer Iqbal & Mahat Raghavendra

Bollywood needs more movies like this focusing on body image. Love that Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi were the main leads, no one would have understood the characters better. However, the concept didn’t feel new – the idea of fashion designers making outfits “for every size” has been done before. Would have loved a different twist/solution to it.

“F” Movies

Farzi – 2023 Series (Prime)
Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon & Raashii Khanna
S1 –
I’m so glad he decided to join the series and make a debut on OTT. The story, the action, and the casting were done so well. I’ll be honest, I was a little unsure about the cop casting because he didn’t give me the “powerful” energy but as the series continued I liked the comedy aspect he brought to the series. The show did feel like a drag at times but that is mostly because each episode is 1 hour long and you have to pay attention to not miss anything. I’m looking forward to S2 if it happens.

Friday Night Plan – 2023 (Netflix)
Juhi Chawla & Babil Khan

It was a good watch. Felt like a Disney movie that is made specifically for teenagers. I would recommend that people watch this with kids as there is a very important message to teach regarding making judgments, friend circles, and being honest with family. Loved seeing Juhi back on screen again.

Four More Shots Please! – 2019 Series (Prime)
Sayani Gupta, Maanvi Gagroo, Kirti Kulhari, VJ Bani, Prateik Babbar & Milind Soman
S1 – S3 –
If Veere di Wedding was a series this would be it. Absolutely loved it – can’t wait for more seasons. If you enjoyed “The Bold Type” on Netflix then you would love this too.
P.s Prateik Babbar in this is just aaaahhhhh

“G” Movies

Govinda Mera Naam – 2022
Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani & Bhumi Pednekar
This movie started out good but lost my attention in the middle because I fell asleep HAHA, And so did my whole family HAHAH. No one finished the movie and it wasn’t the type to make me go back and watch it. Tell me how it was if you saw it.

Ghoomer – 2023
Abhishek Bachchan & Saiyami Kher

What a story! It had everything, love, suspense, sport, and courage. All the actors and actresses were amazing. The movie did not disappoint. Also, it is not based on a real story, though it makes you feel like it is – fooled me hahaha.

Gumraah – 2023 (Netflix)
Aditya Roy Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur and Ronit Roy

Loved the storyline of this movie. A concept I was not expecting. I didn’t even think something like this would happen and has happened for many years! Loved how they added real incident details during the end credit. Acting and everything was good. Cinema worthy to be honest.

“H” Movies

Hi Papa (Hi nana) – 2023 (Netflix)
Mrunal Thakur, Nani & Kiara Khanna

What an adorable movie! The story was so interesting and unique. It had emotion, twists, and turns that I was not expecting. Absolutely loved the little girl in the movie. Fun fact: she was also in the movie “Thank God” as Sid and Rakul’s daughter. Love Mrunal as always. Would highly recommend it for a cute rom-com movie night.

“J” Movies

Jaane jaan – 2023 (Netflix)
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vijay Varma & Jaideep Ahlawat

This movie left me pleasantly confused. Like what just happened? Did he just do this so he can devote all his time towards _ _ _ _ _???? Like bruh what, but also understandable. Geniuses will do anything for discovery. The acting was top-notch! Felt slow at times but worth the watch.

“K” Movies

Kanjoos Makhichoos – 2023
Kunal Khemu, Shweta Tripathi, Alka Amin, Piyush Mishra, Rajiv Gupta & Late Raju Srivastav

Movies like these need to be released in cinemas! Such an amazing storyline. There was a mix of everything. Good comedy, romance, and a political issue with a heartfelt story. Felt like a new story but similar movies have been made before but for a different political issue.

Kathal – 2023 (Netflix)
Sanya Malhotra, Vijay Raaz, Neha Sara & Gurpal Singh

So good to see some old actors making a return. It was somewhat funny because of the ridiculous concept of the story in the beginning. As the movie progressed, the story started to unfold into something bigger and deeper.

Kho Gaye Hum Kahan – 2023 (Netflix)
Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, Adarsh Gourav & Kalki Koechlin

Good Story. Felt a little mellow in the mellow in the middle but came together well towards the end. Everyone did their roles well. The movie would do well with youngsters as my parents were bored and didn’t continue watching.

Khufiya – 2023 (Netflix)
Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi & Ali Fazal

It was a little slow but I powered through because of Tabu. The story was somewhat similar to Raazi at one point. Interesting but could’ve been better.

Kushi – 2023 (Netflix)
Samantha Ruth Prabhu & Vijay Deverakonda

A cute romantic movie showing the challenging journey of a couple creating their own life away from their family’s religious beliefs. A good movie that could’ve been made slightly better but still worth the watch.

Lust Stories 2 – 2023 Series (Netflix)
I only liked the first story. The last two felt like Bollywood movie plots that were shown in a short film. Expected more but Neena Gupta was the star as always.

“M” Movies

Maharaj – 2024 (Netflix)
Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat Sharvari & Shalini Pandey

What a movie. What a story. I’m disgusted. This movie left me in my feels. Amazing. Go watch. Everyone did so well. Obviously, Aamir’s son would pick a topic like this. I only wish the court case scenes were slightly longer … where eventually they would contact other doctors (if you know you know) But overall amazing. I’d watch it again.

Milli – 2022 (Netflix)
Jahnvi Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, Sanjay Suri, Seema Pahwa & Manoj Pahwa

Probably her best role yet. Though it’s a remake of a South film, it was a story that makes you wonder if it was real – which according to Google it is! I was surprised to find out it was Sunny Kaushal in the movie! Also sooo happy to see Sanjay Suri back in movies! His personality and voice suit a cop role so much!

Mission Majnu – 2023 (Netflix)
Sidharth Malhotra, Rashmika Mandanna, Prameet Sethi, Sharib Hashmi & Kumud Mishra

Good movie! Interesting topic and a nice ending. Some familiar faces made a comeback! However, I’m getting a little tired of seeing the Pakistan Vs India movies.
